  9.      Useful Editor (Ued) is a small (about 35K), fast, ASCII editor that is
  10.      suitable for a wide variety of text manipulation tasks.  Some of Ued's
  11.      features include:

  13.         - ability to edit up to 9 files in memory at once
  14.         - files as large as 1000 characters wide and 10,000 lines long
  15.         - file size is only limited by available memory
  16.         - split screen editing
  17.         - typeover and insert mode editing
  18.         - search and replace (both case sensitive and insensitive)
  19.         - cut and paste (three modes: line, range, and block)
  20.         - escape to DOS
  21.         - can load "piped" files
  22.         - wildcard expansion of command line arguments
  23.         - word wrap and paragraph reformat
  24.         - smart indentation
  25.         - easy to use consistent interface

  41.      Licensing

  44.      Ued is a shareware editor.  This means that you only pay for it if you
  45.      decide to continue using it.  If you don't think that it is worth the
  46.      asking price, delete the program, or better yet give it to someone who
  47.      might find it useful.  However if you do decide to keep Ued after a 2
  48.      week trial period, please send $20 (see REGISTRATION FORM on next
  49.      page) to:

  56.      The shareware fee pays for unlimited use of Ued by a single person.
  57.      You are allowed (and encouraged) to give away copies of Ued with the
  58.      understanding that each person receiving a copy is under the same
  59.      obligation as you are to send in the shareware fee if they decide to
  60.      keep it.  You can upload Ued to other computer systems, either free or
  61.      commercial, as long as this archive remains intact, with the copyright
  62.      and shareware notices unchanged.

  64.      Useful Editor can be installed on LANS.  In such situations I ask only
  65.      that the LAN Administrator estimate the maximum number of people that
  66.      will be making "simultaneous" use of Ued and pay the shareware fee
  67.      based on that estimate.  I do not expect that the limit be closely
  68.      monitored or enforced (I appreciate how much trouble that would be),
  69.      but I do expect that the estimate will be revised (and additional fees
  70.      paid) should a substantial increase in the number of nodes on the LAN
  71.      and Ued usage occur.

  73.      No guarantee is made as to the functionality of this software; however
  74.      it has been tested quite thoroughly by a large number of people.  If
  75.      it doesn't do what you want, don't keep it and send no money.

  77.      Please support the shareware concept.  Shareware means useful programs
  78.      at a fraction of the cost you might pay for them commercially.  You
  79.      can try-before-you-buy, and you are not subjected to copy protection
  80.      or other atrocities that many software vendors inflict on their
  81.      customers.  Software updates can also be distributed much faster than
  82.      is possible through normal channels.
